Shrovetide

Well it’s that time of year again when my local town of Ashbourne becomes the stage for the game of ‘Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football‘ I normally participate in the game, but this year I took the opportunity to take some photographs of the action. It was a great couple of days, apart from the terrible downpour at the start of Tuesdays game. I won’t go into detail about the game, as the rules can be readily found at the above link and over at the BBC. I had to make do without a telephoto so I was unable to get the closeup facial expressions and humour that often comes from players in the vacinity of the ball.

Macro Work

I recently purchased a Nikon SB600 Speedlight, which I have put to use in the following shots bouncing light in to the flowers using a reflector. These are only experimental shots, but thought I would share the start of my current project.
